Introduction
Subproject III: Long-term Preservation and Remote Backup System and Service Project
This project aims to assure the sustainable use and preservation of TELDAP digital collections. Responding to diverse content, budget constraints, changing circumstances, and new challenges, the long-term preservation and remote backup system continues to improve and to expand, offering a dynamic mechanism for the access, migration, and preservation of digitized data so that it will not be lost as technologies, software and hardware, and storage media evolve. The backup system also functions as a safety-guard that can be adjusted according to the specifications of the managers.
The project will continue to improve and expand the infrastructure of the storage backup system based on previous experiences and the success of the long-term preservation system established at Academia Sinica.
The main tasks are as follows:
- Developing an appropriate long-term preservation strategy to ensure the complete preservation and utilization of digital assets as the ultimate objective.
- Continuing to improve and expand the facility and service for long-term preservation.
- Coordinating collection management and creation procedures to provide preservation and monitoring services.
- Establishing protocols and standards of long-term preservation service and verification.
- Providing the TELDAP Program Office the infrastructure and service for long-term preservation .
- Integrating with service systems of TELDAP gradually and offering long-term preservation service.
- Cooperating with the sustainable management strategies of the program office and each institute to provide a preservation framework as long-term service and development.
- Developing an automatic monitoring and reporting system to increase the efficiency of storage.
- Offering educational training and consulting to assist the integration of the existing backup system and institutional systems in order to work under the framework of long-term preservation.
